Sonos Move 2 Review

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably struggled with finding the perfect portable speaker that doesn’t compromise on sound quality. I’ve tested my fair share of devices, but the Sonos Move 2 caught my attention for its promise of combining Sonos’ signature audio with true portability. After weeks of using it in various settings—indoors, outdoors, and on the go—I’ve gathered enough insights to share in this Sonos Move 2 review. Here’s what I’ve learned about its strengths, weaknesses, and whether it’s worth the investment.

What Makes the Sonos Move 2 Stand Out?

The Sonos Move 2 is an upgrade to its predecessor, the original Move, and it’s clear that Sonos has focused on refining the design and audio performance. The speaker is heavier than most portable options at 6.6 pounds, but that’s because it’s built to last with a durable, weather-resistant shell. The battery life has been improved, now offering up to 24 hours of playback on a single charge, which is a significant upgrade from the original’s 10 hours. This is a game-changer for outdoor use, as I’ve found myself relying on it for full-day events without worrying about recharging.

Sound Quality: A Deep Dive

Let’s talk about the most important aspect: sound. The Sonos Move 2 delivers rich, room-filling audio that’s characteristic of Sonos products. The bass is punchy without being overwhelming, and the mids and highs are clear and detailed. I tested it with a variety of genres—from classical to hip-hop—and it handled each with impressive precision. The Trueplay tuning feature, which adjusts the sound based on your environment, works seamlessly and makes a noticeable difference, especially in larger spaces.

📌 Note: For the best sound experience, make sure to run Trueplay tuning in the Sonos app. It takes a couple of minutes but significantly enhances the audio quality.

Portability and Design

While the Sonos Move 2 is portable, it’s not as lightweight as some competitors. The built-in handle is ergonomic, but I wouldn’t recommend carrying it for long distances. That said, its rugged design gives me confidence that it can handle accidental drops or exposure to the elements. The IP56 rating means it’s dustproof and can withstand rain, making it ideal for poolside parties or camping trips.

Where the Sonos Move 2 Falls Short

No product is perfect, and the Sonos Move 2 has a few drawbacks. First, the price is steep at $449, which might be a dealbreaker for budget-conscious buyers. Second, while the battery life is impressive, it takes about 3 hours to fully charge, which can be inconvenient if you forget to plug it in overnight. Lastly, the lack of Bluetooth connectivity outside the Sonos ecosystem might frustrate users who want a more versatile speaker.

Comparing the Sonos Move 2 to Competitors

As you can see, the Sonos Move 2 is significantly more expensive than its competitors, but it justifies the price with superior sound quality and integration with the Sonos ecosystem. If you’re already invested in Sonos, this speaker is a no-brainer. Otherwise, you might want to consider more affordable options like the JBL Charge 5 or Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3.

Is the Sonos Move 2 Worth It?

After extensive testing, I can confidently say that the Sonos Move 2 is worth it—but with a caveat. If you prioritize sound quality, durability, and seamless integration with the Sonos ecosystem, it’s an excellent investment. However, if portability and price are your main concerns, there are better options available. For me, the Sonos Move 2 has become my go-to speaker for both indoor and outdoor use, thanks to its exceptional audio performance and long-lasting battery.

Honestly, the Sonos Move 2 isn’t perfect, but it’s as close as it gets for a premium portable speaker. If you’re willing to pay the premium, you won’t be disappointed.
